“Halloween & History ‘07”

Several of Belchertown's historic characters met in the Mt. Hope Cemetery walk as part of the Halloween and History festivities, Oct. 28, 2007

The Belchertown Historical Association offered a full bag of Halloween treats for children and adults on Sunday evening, October 28 in the organization’s third annual “Halloween ‘n’ History” event.

The festivities began at the Old Town Hall on Park Street, where people signed up for walking tours of Mt. Hope Cemetery during which they met several of the personalities from Belchertown’s past.  Tours ran every 20 minutes until about 8:30.  While waiting for tours, members of the Villa Jidiots Improv Comedy Troupe led visitors in participatory wild ghost stories, séances, and  other “paranormal” experiences.

Also during the evening, Belchertown’s own renowned magician, Fran Ferry, performed his amazing magic at McCarthy’s Pub, which sponsored the evening in part.

Visitors also gathered round the campfire at the north end of the Common sponsored by the Belchertown Firefighter’s Association for scary stories.  To add a little atmosphere to the event, Jim Chevalier displayed  his antique hearse on the Common.

Proceeds benefit the Belchertown Historical Association which preserves and promotes the history of Belchertown through the Stone House Museum and educational programs in the schools and community.
